The emails/tweets are rolling in from Calfornia to Chicago to Canada asking about how to access and enjoy Blue Notes and the FWCs without a Newsday or Cablevision/Optimum subscription or paying per month. As reported by Dmitry Chesnokov on Yahoo, Ilya Kovalchuk's camp has apparently set a weekend deadline for a contract to be accepted by the NHL, or he will turn to the KHL and its lucrative $$$$. Negotiating ploy? Maybe. On the other hand, as I mentioned on yesterday's live chat, he's been training there and Kovy and AO have arranged a charity game in Russia on Sept. 5. KHL season starts Sept. 8.
The ascension of Donald Fehr to interim executive director of the NHLPA seems to have been positioned as a bolt from the blue. Nonsense. He's been involved with the union for months and from what I hear, there really was no other candidate unearthed that matched his persona and experience. Notice that no other names even surfaced as serious contenders in the Canadian media. By the end of the 2011-2012 seaon, if Fehr can reshape elements of the CBA, avoid any shutdown and groom a viable successor, call it a hat trick.
