Turns out the twilight's last gleaming will shine on for John Amirante.

The Rangers announced Sunday that they have invited their longtime national anthem singer to return "from time to time'' as a guest performer, an invitation Amirante has accepted.

Specific plans for the timing or frequency of such appearances have not been made yet.

The decision represented a change of heart after what was scheduled to be his final appearance Saturday night before Game 2 against the Penguins. The team did not give a reason for the move, but news of the end of Amirante's 35-year run had generated a wave of mostly negative reaction from fans on social media.

Before Saturday night's game, Amirante, 80, told Newsday that his departure from Rangers duty "hurts."

Now he'll be back.
