RANGERS 0, DEVILS 0 END OF 1

Lundqvist sharp with 10 saves, last one a glove snag off a shorthanded 2 on 1 break by Rob Neidermayer...Brandon Prust, two scraps with bigger Andrew Peters...Sean Avery missed wide on a 2 on 1 after he darted out from box....Prospal had a couple good chances and nice setup for Gaborik in front....Kovalchuk, playing point on PP and line with Zubrus and Elias had two shots...Gliroy, Christensen and Prospal each had two for Blueshirts...Some strange calls, no instigator on Peters, a Zubrus hook... Avery yapping briefly with Brodeur, nothing serious

...for Henrik Lundvist, who has lost six straight starts, and the 10th place Blueshirts. Patrik Elias, who has been sidelined with a concussion, will return tonight for Ilya Kovalchuk's debut against the cross-river rivals.

(We're going all-italics, tonight folks, what the heck....change is good for the soul.. )

"We’re always trying to just regain our confidence," he said,  "with our tape, our meetings, we were really good at times (against Washington)." The major problem was "discipline, we were taking a lot of penalties earlier in the season, we cured it,  and it reared its ugly head against Washington…"

The Olli Jokinen trade has had am impact, because he had a goal and assist. "It changes the atmosphere, some guys, it motivates them, that’s they key here as we go into the short strokes here before the break....The key for the coaching staff is to keep the energy up, it saps you.  We need to read the team and keep them built up, they’ve been upbeat, but obviously frustrated."

"I think Jokinen will help us (on the power play), take a little pressure off (Michael Del Zotto). I think a key guy on our power play has been Vinny Prospal, he has struggled when he came back from his knee injury... They key for our PP is puck movement. When we get stagnant...one of the things we really worked with Gabby is to get rid of the puck, once he holds onto it everybody converges, if he gets rid of it he gets himself open."

Tortorella called Kovalchuk  "a dynamic player, he gives their power play a whole different look, on their tying goal (against Toronto), they overplay him…he’s right with the other guy (Alex Ovechkin) we played against the other night as far as how he can score and how dynamic he can be.""
