Henrik Lundqvist is in goal tonight, despite having taken the high shot off the right side of the neck yesterday in practice. No overnight problems. "Once the game starts, I won't even think about it," he said.
Ryan Callahan, with stitches in right ankle, will play, as will Derek Boogaard. Todd White and Matt Gilroy will sit. Another look at Evgeny Grachev tonight. I spoke with him on the adjustments, more on that later.
Marian Gaborik, out with a separated left shoulder, skated with the team here at Wells Fargo center for the first time since the injury and then worked hard in a conditioning skate afterward. He described his shot at 60-70 percent, although he has not taken slap shots or any contact. Said he has "date in mind" for return, perhaps on next homestand, (I'm guessing Edmonton on the 14th) but it hasn't been divulged or discussed with the doctors.
Turns out that Chris Drury broke his left index finger in two spots in that collision with Michal Rozsival. One was at the same spot as the first non-displaced fracture---and now it's worse, displaced. The second one was a crack in another area. Drury said today that there may have been some miscommunication after that game. He said he is not surprised by the effort that the team is giving, because it was building in that direction from the final games last season and thru camp.
Vinny Prospal, who had knee surgery two weeks ago, is on the trip as well and watched from the bench in street clothes. Says it's good to be around, was "getting lonely at the training center...still needs some time. I have to be patient."
Much more coming up....
