Ah, the airlines.

Won’t get into the issues here, but a Winnipeg to Chicago to Pittsburgh jaunt almost devolved into a Winnipeg to Toronto to Philadelphia to Pittsburgh haul. Yikes.Actually, after seven days on the road, almost said bleep it and went back to New York, but re-arranged things one more time and am in Toronto, waiting for a direct flight to Pittsburgh this afternoon for the game tomorrow. So far I’ve been through security and customs twice, met some nice airport personnel and developed a headache and a mighty thirst.

At any rate, haven’t had much sleep, but working on my weekly Sunday Insider page at Pearson, and thinking about the game in Winnipeg. Wrote several stories and a notebook, which are available on

Some other impressions:

Derek Stepan was on ice for all four goals in the 3-1 loss. His point shot was tipped in by Ryan Callahan. But he was on for the Winnipeg power play, even strength and empty-net goals…Roman Hamrlik played just 5:57…Darroll Powe (4:35) and Jeff Halpern (4:14)….Jets did a good job of finishing checks, but were credited with 46 hits (a hometown-assisted stat?)…Liked Richards' and Gaborik letting out their frustrations by smashing sticks on the bench. They care, just tight as hell...Full marks to MTS Center, the sightlines, the media meal  and Moxie’s bar/resto, but awfully difficult to get from anywhere to The Peg….
