Major challenge on road: Habs, new-look Panthers, Caps

Up to this point, the Rangers have not faced some of the teams who have sprung out to fast starts: Pens, Flyers, Hawks, for example. The schedule will be testy very shortly. See the headline above.

Rangers have lost last four in Bell Centre, an intimidating building which they visit Saturday, and the Habs have some traction. Scott Gomez is healthier, too. There's a three-day break after the Canada trip, but then there's three in four.

Florida has been the surprise of the East, but beatable. The Caps, at home on the day after Thanksgiving, will be up for the Blueshirts, who then travel back to MSG for an after-nooner on the 26th against the aforementioned Flyers. Somewhere in this, the Rangers winning streak is going to end.  the key will
be not to slip into a losing one...

Rangers are practicing at 11. Newsday's Steve Marcus is filling in for me today while I handle some personal business.  Will tweet/blog the news as I hear it, although I don't expect much beyond the status quo. Remember to latch on here...http://twitter.com/stevezipay

Some crazy, salty dreams last night. Have not been to Boston yet this year, but I'm possessed by a favorite sea shanty, so let me spill one version of the trad lyrics out to clear the cobwebs. Must be longing for the summer already. Feel free to sing along...

Well Cape Cod girls don’t use no sleds
Haul away, boys, haul away
They slide down the dunes on their codfish heads
Bound away for Australia...

Heave ‘er up my bully, bully boys
Bound away, boys, bound away...

Cape Cod girls don’t use no combs
Haul away, boys, haul away
They comb their hair with the codfish bones
Bound away for Australia

Cape Cod doctors don’t use no pills
Haul away, haul away
They dose their patients on codfish gills
Bound away for Australia

Cape Cod girls don’t have to toil
Haul away, haul away
They get their pep from the codfish oil
Bound away for Australia...
