All-Star defenseman Marc Staal, who has been experiencing headaches and did not accompany the team to Europe on Monday, will report to Hartford Friday to work out with the Whale.
Staal, 24, who was diagnosed with a concussion following a high hit from his brother, Eric, in Carolina on Feb. 22, saw a number of specialists last week.
Coach John Tortorella told reporters in Prague on Thursday that if Staal fared well, he could join the team in Europe before the season opener against the Kings on Oct. 7 in Stockholm.
As loyal readers will know, I'm not in Prague, where Marty Biron posted a 2-0 shutout against HC Sparta today, nor will I be in Europe for the next three games. Instead, I'll be watching on MSG, and will post my observations here and of course, twitter.com/stevezipay.
I was booked and all set to head for Stockholm on Monday, but whatd'ya know: Detour. Had a surgical procedure in Westchester Medical Center yesterday to remove a blockage in an artery. Back home and feeling OK as I write this, but am medicated up and grounded---solely for air travel---for a couple weeks. Ah well. Another time. Very fortunate that it wasn't worse.
Anyway, watching Devs-Flyers tonight, Rangers in Frolunda tomorrow at 1, and will check back in then. Also preparing a season preview for da paper that will run next Thursday.
