John Tortorella gave the not-very-surprising news that Gaborik and Del Zotto, both recovering from skate lacerations, would not face the Lightning tomorrow afternoon. Neither player practiced today; Ryan Callahan and Vinny Prospal also stayed off the ice to rest. Corey Potter, summoned from Hartford, was at practice and will play a regular turn tomorrow.
The Rangers also put Steve Valiquette on reentry waivers today, though it's not for any reason related to playing: The team needs two goaltenders on the roster at all times, so Valiquette will be on the roster over the Olympic break so that Matt Zaba and Chad Johnson can play in Hartford. Don't expect a) Valiquette to be claimed by another team, or b) Valiquette to be suited up as Henrik Lundqvist's backup when the team resumes playing.
Jody Shelley also made his first appearance. By all accounts, a good guy in the room, an enforcer who knows his role and doesn't try to do too much. Tortorella said he felt the team still needed a presence like Shelley's, and he'll definitely play tomorrow.
