Johan Hedberg, the 40-year-old goaltender who backed up Martin Brodeur in New Jersey for the past three seasons, will attend Rangers training camp on a tryout.

Martin Biron is missing at least the start of camp with " a personal situation", said head coach Alain Vigneault, who was unsure of the timetable for Biron to return.

Biron, 34, had arrived from his home outside of Buffalo on Sunday and participated in a voluntary practice at the training center on Monday and seemed fine afterward, discussing the new shorter goalie pads, shallow nets, his family and training camp. But he did not skate Tuesday.

He appeared in just six games last season, but is by far the most experienced backup goaltender in the Rangers system, hence the move with Hedberg.

Hedberg, known as "Moose," was 6-10-3 last season with a 2.76 GAA and had been bought out on July 4 after the Devils acquired Cory Schneider from the Canucks.
