NHL CBA talks resume today in Toronto

11 a.m.

Will we hear more rhetoric later this afternoon or evening? Probably.

Unless one or both sides present some revised offer to move toward the middle ground of an eventual 50-50 revenue split (or thereabouts) to end the lockout....

In other words, more signal, less noise.  More action, less spin.

I'd imagine that there's not enough time left to unwind the plan to cancel more games by Thursday. It's the number of games that's unclear.  A week, two weeks, a month? And how many could be recouped to salvage a decent season.  72? 70?

Remember, there has to be some sort of training camp (maybe not exhibition games, but camp) for 3-5 days.  Mix in a couple days for players to return from Europe, so that's a week.

Things would have to break right for NHL games to resume in mid-November.

Could the opener be Rangers-Boston on NBC on the Friday after Thanksgiving (which, if you're a loyal reader, will remember,  we wrote about that as a pressure point in September)?

Can't tell, but seems to me that the push will start to come to shove soon...Players need to find other jobs and owners need to book events in empty arenas.
