So the Rangers (27-18-3, 57 points) climbed aboard the charter tonight back in sixth place in the East…Taranna is 18-22-5
Brandon Dubinsky (stress fracture, left tibia) says if the pain disappears, he could be back before three weeks. Says if it was the playoffs, he would dress.
Coach John Tortorella: “You needed to win your home one here, we’ve got a tough road trip here (Carolina, Atlanta, Washington). I look at (injured) Dubinsky and Fedotenko, these are two of my main guys as far as situational play, I rely on them so much in a lot of different areas, other than the regular shift, so it’s good we got one under our belt…
Gabby getting on track here hopefully will help his confidence.”
Brian Boyle on his power play goal, a deflection in front and his 16th overall: “It’s an honor to play on special teams. I am not trying to make any fancy plays. That was a good goal for us and obviously Gabby took care of the rest.”
Henrik Lundqvist on Gaborik: “I definitely think he felt a lot of responsibility with us missing two key guys. It was great to see, his speed and his timing and the way he was scoring.”
Tortorella on Colton Orr: “I told my guys don’t fight him. I didn’t want anybody fighting him. I just don’t get some of the b.s. that goes on. I respect Colton Orr, I really do. “
Tortorella on Drury: “I’ve talked to him. We’re trying to play more of our kids and it’s put Dru in a different role with three centers, Boyle, Anisimov and Stepan. And he’s handled himself very well. If there’s one thing I wish happened tonight is that he scored a goal. He was all over the net, he was all over the puck. He’s a good man and it’s a bit of a transition for him. It’s tough.”
For Gaborik, who had seven shots on goal, three hits and a plus 3, it was his 13th hat trick and 3rd of the season….Wojtek Wolski had two assists and has five points in five games as a Rangers…A Mats Zuccarello fan club, a contingent of Norwegians, was here at the Garden to see him score his 3rd goal at 53 seconds of the third period… Besides Anisimov (4), Avery (3) and Wolski (2), Marc Staal also had two assists for a total of 13. The other helpers went to Stepan (his 15th) and Prust (his 12th)…Rangers are 12-10-2 at home…Dale Weise had seven hits, Dan Girardi has six blocked shots.
