Last licks from D.C>
Brian Boyle, who had five shots: “Same as it always is, we grind. We have confidence that we can wear teams down. We’re in good shape…” On his shootout bid, when goaltender Braden Holtby dove headfirst, arms out, before he could deke: “He pulled a Superman on me. I don’t know where that came from.”
Mats Zuccarello: “Played good defensively, but didn’t create anough offensively. As an offensive forward, you feel like you didn’t play a good game. so I felt like I had to score again in the shootout. So it felt good when it went in. Wooly’s (Wolski’s) shot was sick, too. Today was a big defensive day. Some games are like that.”
Martin Biron: “When you’re down by a goal in the third, so teams open it up a bit. We try to stick to our system defensively and guys find a way. Getting that first point was huge, it was getting down to six minutes and you’re looking at going home empty-handed and that then after that you saw a lot of confidence. It was kind of a cat and mouse game out there.’’
The Rangers have beaten the Caps two of three….They had 29 shots....Biron had 22 saves...The Capitals have lost seven straight overtime games and are now just two points ahead of the Rangers in the East…Evgeny Grachev played 9:09 with no shots.
