Postgame Xtra from Raleigh: Notes, Quotes, Stats

Well, that does it from Raleigh, except perhaps for a nightcap at the hotel. The Rangers will be doing some classroom work on defense, not skating tomorrow in Atlanta, and I'll be flying into Georgia in the late afternoon.

Rangers were out hit 42-26, but dominated another category: faceoffs, 56 to 44 percent.

Kris Newbury ("I like him," Torts said) was 8 for 10 and pummeled Ryan Carter in a late second period bout.

Although he scored in the third, Brandon Prust played less than three minutes in the period, presumably because his shoulder was achy after his fight with Jay Harrison...Eric Staal had eight shots, but was kept off the scoresheet...The Rangers had two shots on their two power plays after goign 2-for-4 against the Leafs.

Steve Eminger: "Ward was not just stopping shots, he was strong. I thought we crashed the net pretty well. Some of the shots against Toronto just went in. "

Enough said.
