Rangers fall to Boston 3-1 in opener

                      BOSTON----Make that 0-1.

In a 48-game season where points will be at a premium, the Rangers came up empty here Saturday night, falling to the amped-up Bruins 3-1 before a crowd of 17,565.

Pessimists will note that the Rangers lost to the Kings, 3-2 in OT in last season’s opener, but garnered a point.

                      Listen up.  They were rusty.

The Bruins are still really good, especially at home. They had Friday off. They played a game against AHL Providence. They had a dozen players competing in Europe. They are the odds-on favorite to win the Northeast.

Sure, there are Ranger issues. Oh, those nine penalties. The 0-for-4 PP. Just 21 shots.

But back away from the ledge. Rick Nash showed some flashes. He went hard to the net, got a point. Thomas Vokoun is expected in net for the Pens Sunday. The Rangers will be pumped at the Garden, like the supportive atmosphere here.

Chris Kreider will be better, too…..
