Rangers-Sabres, Live. 2-2 end of 1

BUFFALO----Ryan Miller, whom John Tortorella thinks is probably the league MVP, leads Sabres on ice for warmup. Henrik Lundqvist is first on for NYR here at HSBC Arena.

Dale Weise, wearing 32 because, uh, 23 is taken, is on the ice, but won't make his NHL debut unless Ryan Callahan is a last-minute DNP. Hint: Callahan wearing the "A"  on his jersey.

Here we go:  Torts said he didn't want his players to be "testing the waters early" and Christensen has first shot of game on Miller... Callahan on first shift with Drury and Voros...Lundqvist gloves shot from sharp angle left side...then makes terrific glove save, while split, at right post  to rob Tyler Ennis' on backhander...At 3:35, Sabres have too many men on the ice, Rangers go on PP...No shots on Miller. Del Zotto fired one from the point, but Drury, in front, deflected it awry

  •  Sabres tie game at 1 on power play, as Derek Roy puts one under the crossbar below right circle at 9:57  Rozsival was off for holding.  That came after Brandon Prust's third in three games. Prust battled through a stick check by Chris Butler and beat Miller high glove side

Now Callahan, in crease, takes offense at retaliatory cross check from behind. More penalties coming up. Callahan and Roy.

2-1 Sabres at 14:56 of the first as Drew Stafford, coming down right side with Tyler Myers on the left, goes five-hole on Lundqvist. Nop rangers have second PP op with Ellis off for delay of game at 16:44

P.A. Parenteau hustles behind Miller to poke in Girardi's slapper that had trickled behind the Sabres goalie. 2-2 with 1:42 left in the period.

Buffalo will start 2nd on PP. Girardi off for tripping.
