The Rangers have signed Providence College free-agent defenseman John Gilmour to an entry-level contract, the team announced Thursday.

Gilmour, 23, produced 22 goals and 65 points in 141 games over four seasons. Last year, Gilmour ranked fifth among NCAA defensemen in power play points (16).

The Montreal native was originally picked by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round of the 2013 draft.
