Rolling on to the Great Midwest...

At DFW for the flight to St. Louis, boys and girls. Hope Rangers and Blues don't go  to another shootout tonight, wouldn't mind sliding over to Jazz, Blues and Soup to catch the late set by local bluesman Dave Dee, his Flying V guitar, and the Hot Tracks. Probably just jinxed it.

Before I forget, high marks to the Stars PR staff for bringing their A-game. Plenty of early notes, a printed pack of same-day internet stories about the Langenbrunner trade by 6 p.m. in the dining room , an in-game delivery of advance items on NYR-St. Louis, and after deadline, a ice-cube-packed silver bucket of Miller and Bud Light bottles in the press box. Now that's Texas hospitality.

OK, looking ahead (Remember, don't look back, the hellhounds might be followin'). Game's at 8 back East, right in conflict with Jets-Colts, I know. (I'm thinking Peyton Manning fashions a late drive to topple Gang Green in a close one).  Maybe ya switch back and forth to MSG. That's why God made remotes, right?

Some numbers: Rangers are 24-15-3, 7-2-2 in last 11 and sixth in the East. (Didya catch Knicks-Suns? I'll wager this is first year since what, 1997?, that both clubs make the post-season). Blueshirts are tied for fifth in the NHL in wins (24), eighth in points (51) and goals (124), and sixth with a plus-18 goal differential. Blues on a 5-1-1 run and 14-5-2 at home.

Questions: Henrik Lundqvist or Marty Biron tonight? The recently-engaged King is extremely focused, I'd lean that way with no game until Tuesday, but...Expecting Ryan McDonagh in for Michal Rozsival (ribs) to play his 2nd NHL game... You can bet Mats Zuccarello, whose Aasen stick, despite trimming by two inches, is as long as Michael Sauer's, I checked the rack yesterday), will be in there... No morning skate; Tortorella will be available to the press horde at 5 at Scottrade Center.

We're planning our weekly live chat for 2 p.m. either Monday or Tuesday, will confirm later. Thanks to everyone for swinging by last week, record number of fans and hundreds of hits for the replay.  And of course, remember to follow me tonight and the rest of the season at twitter.com/stevezipay for real-time news, commentary and random observations of life's sometimes-rich pageant.

             Back soon...
