Room for Doan; Anton Stralman payout includes signing bonus

On the Shane Doan front,  we keep hearing that Vancouver is a possible destination because he's a Western Canada guy (Halkirk) and his wife is from the city. But Canucks have $2.4 mil in space, unless they trade someone to make some room....Philly would have to put Pronger's $$$ on LTIR (expected);  San Jose has $5.5 million in space, that's tight.

Rangers have $11.6 million clear and have to sign Del Zotto, who will get $2 mil, I assume. Pens have $9 mil of room as of today. Phoenix,  by the way, could give him a nice bump: Yotes are about $10 mil BELOW floor. If they can afford it...

And just because a "source", not one of mine, says Doan has an offer of $30 mil over four years, that may be a starting point for a specific team. He might take less for right destination.

Stralman, who will turn 26 next month, and signed yesterday to avoid arbitration, does indeed have a cap hit of $1.7 million for each of the two years.

But  according to,  the Swede also received a $200,000 signing bonus for next season, which is included in his $1.6 mil.

In Stralman's favor: He's a righty, and right now slots in behind Dan Girardi on the starboard side. Next on the depth chart? Stu Bickel. So if you don't think the Rangers are still in the hunt for a depth RD, you aren't payin' attention. Kubina? Martinek? Rozy?
