Scrimmage 2: Boyle scores twice; Sauer, Prust updates...

Observations on second scrimmage:

Mike Sauer (knee) skated with players for first time in camp but did not scrimmage; Torts hopeful that will will scrimmage and complete fitness testing soon; Brandon Prust (surgery for torn labrum in shoulder in late April) held out, and Torts says as a precaution, on advice of docs, won't play for a couple weeks.

Brian Boyle scored 21 goals last season, and picked up where he left off in his first scrimmage of the new season, scoring once against Cam Talbot and a second on a tip in against Scott Stajcer. He was centering Ruslan Fedotenko and Andre Deveaux. The White team, 4-2 winners, also had goals from Fedotenko, who scored on a penalty shot, and Kris Newbury on a tip.

Derek Stepan was between Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan, and scored with 2:13 left in the scrimmage with a high wrister from the right circle with Lundqvist, sharp for the previous 37 minutes, on his back after making a stop. Ryan McDonagh’s onetimer from the left circle in the waning seconds made it 4-2. Lundqvist robbed Shane McColgan  with a glove save from the slot that left the California youngster cursing.

Overall, some crushing hits ---Thuresson splattered McColgan---and more spirited, physical play than the first game. At one point McIlrath bulled through three defenders down the wall and into the right corner. Klassen had some big ones as well.
