The outplayed Wild should be pleased that the Rangers aren't up by more than 1. The NY power play, created by two separate gaffes by Jose Theodore and Cal Clutterbuck whne they cleared the puck above the glass---looked as dismal as it had been before the arrival of Bryan McCabe.
The Rangers did lead 8-0 in shots until Jared Spurgeon got one on Henrik Lundqvist with only 2:43 left in the period. Wild are used to this: They've been outshot in 56 of 64 games, but won 30 of them.
Avery's goal, on a pass from Erik Christensen from behind Theodore at 3:13, was his first at home since Oct. 27 and only his third of the season. But Theodore, falling backward and reaching with his stick on the ice, made the save of the period on Ryan Callahan at the doorstep, at 14:58. McCabe led Rangers in TOI with 7:33, but did not get a shot on goal.
