Henrik Lundqvist will start in goal tonight. Martin Biron will backup and likely play one of the next two.
C Kris Newbury, called up yesterday, skated in the optional. Coach John Tortorella said yesterday that Newbury would play tonight in place of Wojtek Wolski (ribs). Although Wolski practiced and said he was closer to 100 percent, I'd be shocked if he dresses against the Kings. But if Wolski is pain-free, he might play tomorrow night in Newark. Newbury, 28. is better utilized as a center for his faceoff skills, and likely will be the fourth-line pivot , with Prospal, Anisimov and Boyle the first three Cs.
Ruslan Fedotenko (separated left shoulder, appendectomy) skated in a Rangers track suit with teammates for the first time since Jan. 19. It was a harder workout than his first spin on Wednesday, he said, and is still having some abdominal soreness. He may not skate every day. My guess: Out til early March, after the trade deadline.
Wrote yesterday about Derek Boogaard's improvement. Forgot to mention that he said the concussion on Dec. 9 was caused by the flip to the ice from Ottawa's Matt Carkner, (he landed on his shoulder and jarred his neck/head) and not necessarily the punch.
Two other things: Good to see that ex-Ranger P.A. Parenteau received another year, with a sweet raise, to $1.25 mil, from the Islanders. Another Vancouver D, Kevin Bieksa is out, further complicating the trade market for teams, like the Rangers, who are looking for blueline help/depth.
More from the Garden later...
