The Morning Skate: Home is where...

....the wins need to come for the Rangers, who play hosts at the Garden for five of the next eight games, starting tomorrow with Dallas.

Also tomorrow, a reminder: the live FWC (Fabulous Weekly Chat) chugs in right here at 1 p.m. So bring your lunch (I'm thinking chowdah) and lock and load the questions early.

We're hearing rumblings from agents that with the Olympic trade freeze, which ends four days before the NHL trade deadline, some teams who've determined that they are out of contention in mid-February before the Games (Carolina, perhaps Anaheim, Toronto, Edmonton, Columbus) will be shopping UFAs and RFAs in earnest. Saku Koivu, anybody?More on that front soon...

Today, there's practice at noon, so swing back for a report. And if you have the NHL Network, tune into the World Junior gold-medal game, U.S. vs. Canada, which features three Rangers draftees and a collection of future NHLers, tonight at 8.

Sidenote: Tom Petty's live anthology box set, received as a holiday gift, is outstanding. Besides the usual FM suspects are some delightful covers (Friend of the Devil, Something in the Air, Oh Well, Green Onions, Ballad of Easy Rider, I'm a Man... Petty's choices are spot on) and superb takes on pieces like "Matilda", with a long interlude from Benmont Tench on grand piano, "Have Love Will Travel", Nightwatchman",  "Thing About You" and too many to mention here on a hockey blog....Also recommended:  Peak  Performances Volume 2, live recordings by 18 artists (Rob Thomas, Derek Trucks, Sonny Landreth, Dan Wilson, Back Door Slam, G. Love, Willie Nile, Airborne Toxic Event) at Acme Studios in Westchester County by the folks from 107.1/The Peak, with sales targeted to the Food Bank for Westchester.
