Torts: Can't have letdown, same lineup, Staal "day-to-day"

Some excerpts from Tortorella’s pre-game briefing:

As projected here this morning, same lineup as against the Pens. Lundqvist, same d-pairs, line combos.

Torts on Marc Staal, who will miss his second straight: “Can’t play. He’s day to day, I’ll give you that.”

On concern about slipping up against the Panthers: “It’s staring right at us…(we had) an emotional game, and now, a mid-week game against a non-playoff team…it’s been addressed. We need to be ready to play. Right when you think you’ve found a way and you get some important points on the road, the league comes back and bites you in the ass. We need a good start here against a team that’s playing loose and will be a dangerous hockey club.”

On the sudden offense: “Who’s to figure? Even when we were losing in February, we were generating a lot of offense and couldn’t score. But it’s happening at a good time for us. We have to play defense first…hopefully we’ll keep on banging in some pucks here at key times. Who’s to figure?”

Comment on the Cooke suspension? “No, enough people have chimed in on that.”

On McCabe’s impact on the power play: “He’s very good laterally, trying to get the middle of the ice, which is important for the power play. He’s done some good things, that open up the middle of the ice and open up things down low because teams will try to sneak out and try to block his shot.”

On Brandon Prust’s five shorthand goals and shorthanded success:

“We’ve been trying to be more aggressive up ice, it was sometime in December we felt we were spending too much time in our end zone and we had chances to dump pucks and maybe chase it down and really disrupt them. I know Schoney (assistant coach Jim Schoenfeld) had a concentration on that as far as trying to put more pressure up ice we concentrated on getting better dumps to go pursue pucks.”

“Pruster, he just has a knack, he’s around the puck, it doesn’t even look like he can get up the ice sometimes…the puck tends to follow him. "
