Torts on winning at home, Boyle's progress

              Rangers head coach John Tortorella:

"We've got to straighten out at home (7-9-1, which is 29th in the league). We're not gonna get where we want to be at the end of the year if we don't solidify things at home. Coming off what I thought was dreadful game against the Islanders, we need to answer at home here. We have a number of home games coming up here, so we need to take one at a time. We need to try to come in with the same mindset. We need to have a better start."

"Going into the last home game I thought we were ready to play...I don't think there's a nervousness, I think there needs to be more of a readiness, so hopefully as we do better things whether it be home or away, you start growing and start to feel good about yourself going into a home game."

On C Brian Boyle, who wrenched his lower back in Philly, but will center the fourth line tonight. Eric Christensen (I don't see him grabbing a hold of that position, said Torts) is scratched with Aaron Voros. IMO, after the roster freeze is over on the 27th, Christensen will be waived and the Rangers could summon a seventh D, possibly Ilkka Heikkinen.

Boyle "has gone through the process. We have pushed him along the way trying to teach him. I've crawled on him a number of times. We see an improvement. He can kill penalties, still need a lot of work with him on faceoffs and we continue to try to work with him as far as using his size to lean on people. It's a work in progress, so we want to stay with that because we feel he deserves it."

More on the D, specifically Gilroy and Redden, coming up....Oh, and Henrik Lundqvist will be in the net for the 11th straight game. As I wrote the other night, it appears Chad Johnson will make his debut on New Year's Eve in the second game of the back to back in Carolina...
