Over in Germany, the U.S. just lost on a Stefan Lassen rebound over Scott Clemmensen in OT. US has two points in the qualifying round and plays Finland on Wednesday. Best case scenario for Americans: Germany beats Finland (zero points so far) in regulation later today. In that case, U.S. will need just another point Wednesday to advance.

UPDATE (Finland, Germany scoreless after 1)

Jarrkko Immonen, ex-Blueshirt, scores lone goal to lift Finns over Germans. So the group standings are:

Denmark on top and will play Germany, who have two points, like the US, who next face the Finns, with three points.

Both Germany and US need wins, preferably in regulation, which award three points. Only the top three teams in a group qualify for the Big 12.

U.S. does not have a deep squad. Canada, meanwhile, another story. Could rout Lativa today. Up 1-0 early on a Tavares goal...Then 2-0 on anothe PP goal, this one by Stamkos.  Latvia has to stay out of box.  This baby ends 6-1, with Chad Johnson stopping 11 of 12 shots in the third.
