Weise, a young, sturdy 4th liner unafraid to drop the gloves (although he loses a lot of bouts) has been claimed by the Canucks. So he almost made it through waivers, with Vancouver No. 29 based on last year's finish.
Weise, 23, a right wing, had 18 goals for the AHL Whale last year, after 28 the previous season. A Winnipeg native, he complied 19 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Rangers last December and January.
Weise, a restricted free agent after this season, will add $605 mil to the Canucks cap if he sticks in the NHL, far less if he is reassigned to the A---and clears waivers.
Still wonder why NYR didn't try to package Weise and or Christensen/prospect for an experienced D. Maybe they did. Unless something else is up. But seems like a waste of value.
