Ville Leino to Sabres for six years, $27-million

1) VILLE LEINO, FLYERS
A revelation in last spring’s playoff run, Leino has carried it over to the Flyers’ dominating first half of this season. He never could crack the Wings’ cadre of key forwards, but he’s as big a piece to Philly’s success as any of their homegrown talents.

It seems the Sabres are out of the Brad Richards race with this latest signing -- Leino is a solid contributor and gets a pretty nice raise from $800,000. Buffalo is now at roughly $61.8-million in payroll for next season; with RFA G Jhonas Enroth, D Andrej Sekera and D Marc-Andre Gragnani still needing to be signed, that doesn't leave enough for the eye-popping offer they'd need to make to land Richards.

The Flyers' shuffling has left them without Leino, who was an asset. But their Kris Versteeg trade gives them about $4-5 million of cap space, so they may not be done.
