Hofstra's Jenkins named CAA player of the year

Hofstra may have finished seventh in the Colonial Athletic Association, but the Pride's Charles Jenkins was named CAA player of the year last night. The 6-3 junior guard led the CAA in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals, shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 40.3 percent from three-point range and 80.3 percent from the foul line.

Three other Hofstra players also were honored at the CAA awards banquet in Richmond, Va. Point guard Chaz Williams (9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.2 assists) and forward Halil Kanacevic (8.6 points, 7.6 rebounds) made the all-freshman team and junior forward Greg Washington (6.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks) made the all-defensive team.
