The Belmont Stakes averaged 18.6 million viewers on ABC, the third-highest figure in records dating to 1988 but behind last year's 20.5 million for California Chrome's failed Triple Crown bid.

Smarty Jones' Triple Crown attempt in 2004 averaged 21.9 million viewers.
