Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Sunday, Feb. 18

Best Bet: GORELLI (7); Best Value: A FLEET ATTITUDE (5)

FIRST: String Section was a fast-figured third in first start since seven-week layoff; more to give. Mad Dog Matters was a clear-cut second behind an eight-length winner last time; dangerous. Mo Flash fired half-mile bullet since last start; worth a look.

SECOND: Littlefirefighter owns sprinter’s speed and could enjoy soft lead in small field. She’s So Fine packs potent kick on best efforts and makes peak start of form cycle; very interesting. Full House exits top-figured score just two weeks ago; bounces today?

THIRD: Nine Route is riding a two-race winning streak and projects as the controlling front-runner with aggressive ride. Evaluator lost a head bob for all the money in Damon Runyon Stakes last time; very dangerous. Empire upped record to 2-for-2 when besting Evaluator in Damon Runyon; obviously could take this.

FOURTH: Blinded Vision is fleet-footed and adds blinkers; main speed. Power Boss could be sitting in the catbird seat if top selection hits the wall in the stretch. Dead Broke logged three tightly grouped works for first start since August; must consider.

FIFTH: A Fleet Attitude was speed sharpened in last and should be forwardly positioned in contentious field; call based on price potential. Heaven’s Runway hasn’t raced in a year to the day but is training swiftly and owns fast figures; mixed message. Final Chapter wheels back in a hurry and drops; must be factored into the mix.

SIXTH: Tough Old Bird, who is 0-for-15 in his career, finished second in last two starts and gets beneficial, additional sixteenth today; 16th time the charm? Miss Sizzle has been on the bench since April but is speedy and training with a purpose; dangerous. Impazible Creek makes first start with maiden-claiming tag; don’t ignore.

SEVENTH: Gorelli owns a stalker’s style that could be well served in field with sufficient speed. Competitiveness is quick from the gate and makes first start since claimed by Rudy Rod riguez; dangerous. Sir Alfred understandably came up short in the lane when making first start since 13-month layoff last time; tighter today.

EIGHTH: Startwithsilver unleashed powerful last-to-first run when upping record to 2-for-2 on Big A’s main track; keeps on giving. Sandy Belle also is 2-for-2 at Aqueduct and has won four of last six starts; big-time threat. Picco Uno is fresh, training sharply and owns fast numbers on best efforts; must be considered.

NINTH: Comeoncomeoncat dons blinkers and could play out as the speed of the speed in wide-open nightcap. Flipped failed to impact after poor start in debut; improvement expected. Anythingpazible was an even fifth after wide trip last time and tallied very fast number on Big A loam this past fall; very playable. Merger of Banks is fleet-footed but has lost ground in the stretch in all six starts; you’ve been warned.
