Steve Matthews' Aqueduct selections for Friday, Jan. 4

Best bet: STORM PROPHET (7)

Best value: HALLOWEEN HORROR (5)

FIRST: Paynterbynumbers fired two bullet works since strong third in debut; more to give. She'll Do, second in both starts, makes first outing for Todd Pletcher barn; very dangerous. Fancy That is training with a purpose for first start since September; must consider.

SECOND: Spun to Run exits top-figured third in last; rates close call. U R Not So Bad regressed in last after front-end placing in prior; rebound potential. Classic Romeo compiled four tight works for second start for Pletcher barn; must consider.

THIRD: Solitary Gem was compromised by bad start when a late-running third last time; probable pace dynamics play to strength. Speed Khaleesi owns speed and can prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Diamond Jen Brady also is quick from the gate and returns from helpful freshener; don't ignore.

FOURTH: Dizzy makes first start with maiden-claiming tag; sharp, recent work tab seals the deal. Regal Retort was a useful third in debut; very dangerous. Whyisshesoolucky was victimized by poor getaway last out; right in the thick of this on "A" effort.

FIFTH: Halloween Horror owns sprinter's speed and projects as the controlling front-runner with aggressive ride. Turco Bravo packs potent kick and will be the prime beneficiary if top selection hits the wall in the stretch. Indian Guide was a clear-cut second in last; must be factored into the mix.

SIXTH: Its All Relevant is riding a two-race winning streak and can be effective from on or just off the pace. Outplay is speedy, drops and adds blinkers; front-running threat. Fifty bounced last time after wire-to-wire win in prior; very interesting.

SEVENTH: Storm Prophet is fresh, training with a purpose and owns fast late-pace figures on best races. Gio d'Oro is fleet-footed and will prove a very tough customer on a soft lead. Playthatfunnymusic drew off by more than five lengths when a convincing winner in last; very playable.

EIGHTH: Mrs Vargas could get the early jump in weak nightcap; tight work tab is the clincher. Flying Pleasantly runs late and could impact at fat ticket if pace meltdown ensues. Big Expense adds blinkers and owns competitive numbers on best efforts; worth long look. Swift Vengeance was second to an 11-length winner last time; must be factored into the mix.
