Steve Matthews' Belmont selections for Thursday, Oct. 11

Best bet: MAJOR FORCE (8)

Best value: BRONXVILLE (5)

FIRST: Quietude gets blinkers and moves to dirt after speed and fade in last; controlling front-runner. Rose of Dublin was compromised by a poor start last time; must consider. Tropical Storm Em is training with a purpose for debut for Todd Pletcher; follow the money.

SECOND: Avery Maeve owns fast figures and makes first start for Jason Servis; price won't get the pulse racing, however. Angel Food is riding a forward line on the numbers and returns to turf; odds will be tempting. La Naturel owns a win and three seconds from four starts on Belmont grass; don't ignore.

THIRD: Causforcelebration is fresh and could be sitting on breakthrough effort; weakness of field is selection's strength. Wild William fired 5-furlong bullet for first start in seven weeks; dangerous. Ridolfo should improve with return to grass; price will be tempting.

FOURTH: Turco Bravo is riding a two-race winning streak and owns faster back figures. Chunnel has also won two in a row and ships in for high-octane Jorge Navarro barn; very dangerous. Bad Student regressed in last after fast-figured win in prior; worth long look.

FIFTH: Bronxville is speedy, drops and moves to grass; controlling front-runner with aggressive ride. Cotton House failed to beat a runner on sloppy surface last time; addition of Lasix and return to turf are keys. Secular Stagnation debuts for Chad Brown; how can one man have all the best horses?

SIXTH: Call It a Truce made solid rally to get second in debut and should be aided by today's additional 16th. Midnitesalright was a game, front-end second in last; could easily take this. Dearly Declared compiled eye-catching work slate for debut; stay tuned to the tote.

SEVENTH: Rocky Tough makes first start since claimed by Robertino Diodoro; fires "A" effort. Chris and Dave, an uncoupled barn mate of top selection, owns speed and returns to preferred footing; dangerous. Papa Shot was a clear-cut second to a runaway winner last out; must consider.

EIGHTH: Major Force packs potent kick and owns two wins on Belmont sod. Dirty is quick from the gate and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Fast Boat should possess amplified wallop with cutback to 6 furlongs.

NINTH: Poshsky regressed in last after fast-figured win in prior; rebounds. Shamcat drops and makes peak start of form cycle; very dangerous. With Exultation fired half-mile bullet for first start in 45 days; right in the thick of this.
