Good Morning

Steve Matthews' Belmont selections for Sunday, Oct. 14

Best value: GRAMMI DANCE (5)

FIRST: Carom was a useful fifth in first start since 11-week layoff last out; forward move predicted. Tiz Morning is riding a positive line on the numbers and makes third start of form cycle; dangerous. Shiny Copper Penny is 0-for-24 but owns fast turf numbers on best efforts; mixed message.

SECOND: Infield Is In makes first start since gelded and first start since claimed by Michelle Nevin; career best expected. Industrial Logic has finished second in last two starts; runner-up again? Rockin Jo is speedy and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead.

THIRD: Via Castagna makes third start since nine-month layoff after improved fifth in last; more to come. Huracan was a hard-charging second in last; big-time player. Pay the Price is fleet-footed and must be factored into the mix.

FOURTH: Diamond Play has won two in a row (Suffolk Downs, Monmouth) and is a good fit with the locals at this level. Free N Clear regressed in last after front-running second in prior; rebound threat. Miko was a clear-cut second on Tapeta surface at Presque Isle Downs last time; must be considered.

FIFTH: Grammi Dance drops into maiden claimer after displaying improved speed in last; set for best. Power Source was a late-running fourth when 96-1 in debut at Churchill Downs; dangerous but demand square price. Six Brothers took backward step in last after pace-pressing fifth in debut; don't ignore.

SIXTH:  Lil Commissioner wheels back in a hurry after logging fast internal and final numbers just 11 days ago; more in the tank. Three Perfections owns fast late-pace figures and is training with a purpose for first start in seven weeks; dangerous. Themanbehindtheman is speedy and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead.

SEVENTH: Held Accountable is fresh, working sharply and should pack amplified kick at 7 furlongs. Fair Regis owns positional speed and fast numbers; dangerous. Noble Freud also is quick from the gate and might play out as the speed of the speed.

EIGHTH: Patterson Cross was pace- and trip-compromised in Grade 1 at Woodbine last time; good spot. Hello Don Julio is speedy and exits fast-figured score on Laurel grass last out; big-time threat. Im the Captain Now is training sharply for suddenly live Barclay Tagg barn; don't overlook.

NINTH: Burkey's Babe is fleet-footed and training with a purpose; call in wide-open nightcap. Catania Rose could be in the garden spot if pace meltdown ensues. Quietly Quick makes third start of form cycle after game placing in last; could easily take this. Reconsider It logged career-best number on Belmont grass in summer of '17; price will be tempting.
