Steve Matthews' Belmont selections for Thursday, Oct. 25

Best bet: OFF TOPIC (4)

Best value: ALL CLEAR (6)

FIRST: Promise Me Roses was compromised by wide trip in last after fast-figured placing in prior; rebounds. Aly's All Out is speedy and needed last; dangerous. Zecha has finished second three straight times; minor award again?

SECOND: Flat Calm set hot fractions when a front-running winner in last; pairs up. Archumybaby also is speedy and won last; very dangerous. Might Be fired half-mile bullet since failing as the favorite in last; logical, short-priced player.

THIRD: Mini P has worked three times since speed and fade in U.S. debut; duly tightened. No Mans Land packs potent kick and will be in the garden spot if top selection hits the wall in the stretch. Hierarchy was a strong second in last; right in the thick of this.

FOURTH: Off Topic tallied rapid late-pace figure when a clear-cut second in last; 5-furlong bullet last week seals the deal. It Justhitthe Wire owns sprinter's speed and could prove very tough on a soft lead. Filly Joel was a tough-trip third in last; must be factored into the mix.

FIFTH: Southern Brigade tallied solid final fraction when making wide rally to land second in last; more to come. Quick Charge was done in by quick fractions in dirt sprint last time; very dangerous with softer flow. Doups Point is fresh and owns two seconds from three starts; must consider,

SIXTH: All Clear makes peak start of form cycle and returns to dirt; set for breakthrough effort. Laura's Posse was gelded since fast-figured, front-end score in July; very dangerous in return. There Goes Jose was a front-running maiden winner in last; right in the thick of this.

SEVENTH: Tayler's the Boss, from a dam that has produced a turf winner, owns sprinter's speed and projects as the dominant front-runner. Critique notched swift late-pace figure when third in turf debut last out; very dangerous. Sweet August Lady was second at 65 cents on the dollar last out; be no surprise.

EIGHTH: Luz Mimi is rested and tallied career-best late-pace and final figures on Belmont loam this past spring; call based on price. Angel At War is fleet-footed and ships in for Michael Gorham barn; big-time, front-end threat. Nisha has been idle since winning at this level on June 28; more than good enough if primed for best.

NINTH: Leap to Glory is quick from gate and is firing bullets for first start after a two-month freshener; wire to wire. Jupiter Rising notched swift late-pace figure when a clear-cut second in last; big-time threat. Sparky tallied only win this course and distance at spring/summer meeting; very interesting. Expediter ships in from Finger Lakes and is riding a two-race winning streak; don't ignore.
