Steve Matthews' Belmont selections for Friday, June 28

FIRST: Codrington makes third start of form cycle after earning improved late-pace figure in last; set for best. Theaterintheround needed last and owns fast back numbers; dangerous. Puffery was an even sixth in last; right in the thick of this on "A" effort.

SECOND: Inclunation regressed in last after top-figured placing in previous start; class drop seals the deal. Big Wonder gets class relief and returns to dirt; could wake-up at big price. Smidge owns speed and rates a puncher's chance at juicy odds.

THIRD: Rucksack is quick from the gate and projects as the main speed with return to turf. Willing to Speed was compromised by wide trip when a strong second in last; very playable. Untred owns a win and a third from two starts; must be factored into the mix.

FOURTH: Analyze Your Risk owns an experience edge in field of newcomers. South Africa compiled tight work tab for debut. Determined Force ships in for solid Maryland-based barn; stay tuned to the tote.

FIFTH: Candid Desire motors in from Jersey for high-octane stable; 5-furlong bullet last week is the clincher. Blue Belt is fleet-footed and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Summer Bourbon is fresh and owns fast numbers on best efforts.

SIXTH: Crackspeed owns speed and should make every pole a winning one with proper handling. Rapt runs late and could be in the garden spot if top selection hits the wall in the lane. Hierarchy broke maiden this course and distance last fall; must consider.

SEVENTH: Anne Dupree has trained with a purpose since clear-cut win at Gulfstream last out; was second in key race in lone outing on Belmont sod. Retro Street took backward step in last after fast-figured win in prevous start; big-time, bounce-back potential. Architect was a subpar eighth in last but owns competitive numbers on best efforts.

EIGHTH: Oleksandra made eye-catching last-to-first rally to win first start on Belmont turf; more to come. Mai Ty One On tallies rapid numbers with machine-like consistency; very dangerous. Vici is speedy and may find himself alone on the lead; don't ignore.

NINTH: No Worries Mate logged three tight works since non-stressful seventh in first start since six-month layoff; forward move predicted. Alphatest gets favorable cutback to 7 furlongs after setting sizzling splits in route last time; very interesting. Dove Shoot also is quick from the blocks and could be sitting on breakthrough in third start of form cycle. Evan is from a dam that has dropped a turf winner; don't dismiss.
