Steve Matthews' Saratoga selections for Friday, Aug. 31

Best Bet: DIVINE INTERVENTIO (6); Best Value: SHAMSAAN (2)

FIRST: Barrel of Destiny tallied solid final fraction when six wide entering stretch; call based on price. Chiclet's Dream coughed up clear lead in the stretch last time; vulnerable at short ticket? Copperline closed well in sprint debut and could be aided by added ground.

SECOND: Shamsaan drops, makes peak start of form cycle and could be in the catbird seat from favorable rail post. Single Gem displayed speed in sprint last time and could play out as the controlling speed with aggressive ride; dangerous. Apartfromthecrowd packs solid kick but hails from Chad Brown barn and looms a likely underlay.

THIRD: My Mr. Wonderful is rested, drops and projects as the dominant speed. One More Tom also gets class relief and could be in the garden spot if pace meltdown ensues. Cross Multiply is another that would benefit if fractions get fast and furious.

FOURTH: Malibu Stacy exits sprint and looms the speed of the speed with heads-up handling. Dynatail was a game second at 15-1 in last; worth long look. Rymska had won three in a row before going to the bench in November; another overbet Chad Brown runner.

FIFTH: Quiet Company fired half-mile bullet since front-running third in debut; duly tightened. Malibu Mischief also owns speed and wheels back in a hurry after pace-setting third on Sunday. Paradise Retained is from a dam that has thrown two grass winners; very interesting.

SIXTH: Divine Interventio logged swift late-pace figure when a four-length winner last time; pairs up. Scarf It Down is riding a forward line on internal and final figures; very playable. Halloween Horror drops and should pack amplified wallop with cutback to 7 furlongs; price will be tempting.

SEVENTH: Smile More has worked three times since useful third in debut; forward move predicted. Baccarat Fashion is quick from gate and could prove to be a tough customer on an unchallenged lead. Big Birthday owns fast numbers and hails from Chad Brown barn; if chalk is your game.

EIGHTH: Danyelli compiled tight work tab for first start since June for Rudy Rodriguez; call in contentious dash. Special Relativity notched rapid final fraction when a clear-cut winner in last; easily could take another. Wisconsin Night is fleet-footed and could prove tough to collar if able to shake clear from other front-runners.

NINTH: Pocket Change owns tractable running style and is favorably posted outside; sits the trip. Big Rock owns three wins and a third in four starts on Spa sod; dangerous. Rocket Heat, a wire-to-wire winner in last, sizzles from the gate and could play out as the controlling speed once again.

TENTH: Timeless Beauty makes first start since claimed by Robertino Diodoro after fast-figured maiden win on Aug. 3; more to come. Heaven's Creation, also claimed by Diodoro stable last time, consistently delivers strong efforts; dangerous. Problem Solving is fresh and training with a purpose; very interesting. She'sakittykat has finished second at this level in last two starts; don't ignore.
