Steve Matthews' Saratoga selections for Monday, Aug. 27

Best bet: HAVE AT IT (8)

Best value: TAPIN THROUGH LIFE (3)

FIRST: Bret's Legacy logged three sharp works since even third in debut; improvement predicted. Woodbury was second to a much-the-best winner in debut; very dangerous. Red Zinger has finished third in both starts; continues trend?

SECOND: No Mans Land was pace- and trip-compromised when a willing third in last; more to come. Sargeant Drive is fresh and owns fast figures; logical, short-priced player. Midnight Tea Time was second in last and now makes first start since claimed by Joe Sharp; right in the thick of this.

THIRD: Tapin Through Life drops into maiden claimer after logging deceptively fast late-pace figure in last; three works in the interim seals the deal. Merger Arbitrage is training with a purpose for first start since November for Chad Brown; would it really surprise you? Big Mischief is another Brown-trained runner that is working sharply; let price be your guide.

FOURTH: Weekend Hideaway was unfazed by sizzling splits when a front-running winner in last; pairs up. Celtic Chaos lacked room late when third to top selection on July 26; very playable. Eye Luv Lulu has hit the board in seven of last eight starts; must consider.

FIFTH: Changewilldoyagood projects as the controlling speed with top-notch, front-end rider in the saddle. Cloontia needed last and drops; very dangerous. Wicked Freud runs late and could be in the garden spot if pace meltdown ensues.

SIXTH: New York Song owns fast late-pace figures and makes third start of form cycle; breakthrough effort predicted. Dr. Shane is fleet-footed and will prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Pagliacci needed last and owns favorable stalker's style; must be considered.

SEVENTH: Love That Jazz fired two, crisp half-mile works for first start since claimed by Michelle Nevin; call in wide-open dash. Fleet Irish has won two in a row and is favorably posted in competitive field; dangerous. Sal the Turtle was a fast-figured, front-running winner in last; bounces on Monday?

EIGHTH: Have At It regressed versus Grade 2 field in last after determined win in prior; rebounds. Strike Power owns sprinter's speed and starts from fence in first grass start; dangerous. Corot also moves to turf for first time and is from a dam that has thrown three grass winners; very interesting.

NINTH: Molly's Party never delivered when favored in race moved to main track last time; return to grass makes the difference. Corey Scores was just a neck behind a next-out winner when third at 90 cents on the dollar in debut; short price once again. Evan's Nice Now moves to grass after useful fourth in debut; dangerous. Margie Cat is from a dam that has produced a grass winner; very interesting. Traci's Girl is working swiftly for debut; follow the money.
