Steve Matthews' Saratoga selections for Sunday, Sept. 2

Best bet: DREAM PAULINE (10)

Best value: EXCELLENT SUNSET (11)

FIRST: Bronze Age makes quick return after speed and fade just nine days ago; improvement predicted. Take It to Scale fired half-mile bullet for return to dirt; very dangerous. Ruler of the Nile is fresh and owns fast numbers on best efforts.

SECOND: Pipes was a solid third in lone grass start; needs scratches to get in. Ro Jo was a useful sixth in debut; forward move expected. The Glominator is speedy and should be aided by cutback to sprint.

THIRD: Almithmaar has drilled three times since last start; rates close call. Fully Vested was a front-running maiden winner last out; very playable. Rubus makes second start since 10-month layoff; very interesting.

FOURTH: Introspection gets Lasix after even fourth in debut; three works in the interim seals the deal. Filly Joel also was fourth in first start and could be aided by additional furlong. Still Processing was a clear-cut second to a runaway winner in debut at Laurel; don't ignore.

FIFTH: Bella's Game has trained with a purpose since breaking maiden on Belmont turf in June; more to come. Discreet Image regressed in last after game placing in prior; rebound threat. She Doesn't Mind is a frequent disappointment at short odds; you've been warned.

SIXTH: Alphabetting fired 3-furlong bullet since even sixth in debut; forward move predicted. Sassy Agnes never threatened in debut but hails from suddenly live Linda Rice barn; could easily improve. It's a Lovely Day debuts for Chad Brown; you know the drill.

SEVENTH: She's Got It All displayed improved speed in last and followed with two sharp works. Whyisshesoolucky gets the meds after even third in debut; dangerous. Utiki noticeably picked up the tempo in morning drills as race day drew near; could be the goods.

EIGHTH: Killeen drops and packs potent kick on best efforts. Long Gray Line moves to grass in first start since claimed by Linda Rice; worth long look. Congruity was a front-running winner in last; speedy player once again.

NINTH: Goodbye Brockley earned solid late-pace figure when a determined winner in last; pairs up. Mighty Scarlett owns fast figures and is training sharply; dangerous. Too Cool to Dance owns a win and three seconds from four starts; logical, short-priced threat.

10TH: Dream Pauline tallied swift final fraction when winning second in a row last time; ready for the big time. Dream Tree is 4-for-4 and ships in from SoCal for Bob Baffert; obvious threat. Mia Mischief was an ultra-game second in the Grade 1 Test last time; right in the thick of this.

11TH: Excellent Sunset overcame soft fractions en route to determined score in U.S. debut at Ellis Park; keeps on giving. Transaction Tax is quick from the gate and could prove to be a very tough customer on an unchallenged lead. Out of Trouble notched three wins and three seconds from last six starts; must be factored into the mix.

12TH: St. Louie gets much-needed class relief after failing to beat a runner just eight days ago; rates timid call in wide-open nightcap. Master Plan drops in price after hard-fought win in last; mixed message. Your Only Man gamely defeated 11 rivals when taking last; right in the thick of this. Sycamore  Lane is training strongly for first start in eight weeks; don't ignore.
