Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Friday, March 2

Best bet: HEAVY MEDDLE (7)

Best value: FACTOR THIS (2)

FIRST: Bear Clause owns a late-running style that could be well served in weak opener. No Hiding Place could play out as the swiftest of the swift with aggressive ride; dangerous. Final Chapter drops after speed and fade in last; damaged goods?

SECOND: Factor This notched swift late-pace figure when a clear-cut winner in last; developing 3-year-old colt with more to give. Coltandmississippi gets class relief after facing stakes fields in last three starts; must consider. Go Get the Munny visually and numerically impressed when winning at 9-2 in debut; regresses at short ticket today?

THIRD: Lex Vegas was pace and position compromised when an even fourth versus pricier last time; improvement predicted. Helooksthepart consistently logs field’s fastest late-pace figures; very dangerous. Rockford is another that delivers strong efforts with machine-like precision; right in the thick of this.

FOURTH: Sundance Joy is riding forward line on internal and final numbers; price play in compact maiden field. Anne’s Song was a hard-charging second at the mile distance last time; big-time threat. Dancingwthdaffodls also was second at the distance in last and must be factored into the mix.

FIFTH: Beyond Discreet was victimized by poor getaway when a late-running third in last; big price in small field. Playinwiththeboys bested top selection by a length last time and has hit the board in all nine starts; be no surprise. Pink Twist was a fast-figured winner in debut Jan. 21 but shows just one work in the interim; vulnerable underlay?

SIXTH: City Traveler is speedy, rested and could get the early jump at a juicy price. St. Patrick Frost either bounced, failed to handle slop or a combination of the two when ninth in nine-horse field last time; rebound potential. Pretentious owns fast final figures but appears to prefer minor spoils; you’ve been warned.

SEVENTH: Heavy Meddle is fresh, training sharply and looms the speed of the speed with heads-up ride. Giantinthemoonlite packs potent kick and will be in the garden spot if top selection gets hooked on the lead. Jewel Can Disco can boogie from the gate but must avoid a front-end battle with Heavy Meddle; pace makes the race.

EIGHTH: Pegasus Red tallied improved pace and final figures in last and could provide quick return in first start since claimed by Gary Contessa. Toohottoevenspeak notched rapid final fraction when winning by nearly three lengths last time; very dangerous. Fratello Del Nord took backward step in last start after fast-figured placing in prior outing; bounce-back threat. We Did fired 3-furlong bullet workout last week after failing to beat a runner on Feb. 3; mixed message.
