Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Sunday, Feb. 7

Best Bet: IN SPITE OF MAMA (4)

Best Value: ARCTIC KING (2)

FIRST: Takrees logged three tight works since tallying solid final fraction when second in most recent start; more to come. Blue Bahia is speedy and will prove very tough on a soft lead. Modiste is training sharply for first start since July; very interesting.

SECOND: Arctic King logged much-the-best victory the first time he touched the inner surface; pairs up. Roman Revival could play out as the controlling front-runner with stretchout to route. Frenchman Bay exits game placings in last two starts; logical.

THIRD: Native Crossing drops and has worked three times since failing to beat a runner on New Year’s Day; improvement predicted. Miss Moneyhenny was a strong second in last; dangerous. Majesticconfection bested top selection by 43 lengths when fourth in last start; big-time player.

FOURTH: In Spite of Mama notched career-best late pace figure when a 7-length winner last out; more to give. Saythreehailmary’s is riding a two-race winning streak; very dangerous. Storied Lady was compromised by slow fractions when second in last; don’t ignore.

FIFTH: Overawe is speedy and training with a purpose for first start since August; call based on price potential. Super Psyche was a determined second in last; be no surprise. Kick Off is rested and owns fast figs on ‘A’ game; right in the thick of this.

SIXTH: Rob the Weezer gets blinkers, Lasix and drops in first start since non-threatening debut; froward move predicted. You Got It was a game second when favored in last; logical, short-priced player once again. Majority made incremental improvement on the numbers when just a length behind You Got It last time; must consider.

SEVENTH: Oliver Rush finished with a rush when third in last; call based on price potential. Alysaro was a change-of-pace second in last and also is effective on the lead; very playable. Puppy Manners should pack amplified late wallop with cutback to 6 furlongs; right in the thick of this.

EIGHTH: Bust Another logged breakthrough-figure victory in first start on winterized oval; more in the tank. Spooked Out should be aided by turnback to 6 furlongs but has failed as the favorite in last two starts; must take the good with the bad. Fumin Newman was victimized by poor start last time; don’t ignore.

NINTH: Piscesbymoonlight is fleet-footed and compiled tight work tab for first start in 122 days; close call in ultra-contentious nightcap. Combat Diver is riding a two-race winning streak and fired half-mile bullet last week; very playable. Chairman Now took backward step in last after winning two in a row; bounce-back threat. Unstoppable U makes first start for David Jacobson after front-end score last month; right in the thick of this.
