Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Thursday, Jan. 28

Best Value: QUEEN OF CASTLE (4)

FIRST: This Hard Land packs potent late kick and has the benefit of the rail with short run into first turn. Caspian Crown owns sprinter’s speed and looms the controlling front-runner; very dangerous. Beautyinthepulpit owns fast back figures; right in the thick of this.

SECOND: Stones of Navarone projects as the main speed with aggressive ride. Swayed could be ideally positioned in the stalker’s seat. Appian has won two straight at FL; don’t ignore.

THIRD: Surprise Cameo gets favorable cutback to sprint and should pack amplified late kick. Head Shrinker is riding a two-race winning streak; price will be tempting. Clipthecouponannie visually and numerically impressed when winning debut; big-time danger.

FOURTH: Queen of Castle wheels back in a hurry after being compromised by poor start on Jan. 15; more to give. You Lucky Dog is riding a forward line on the numbers and could capitalize on unchallenged lead from the fence. Punch It could wake-up with addition of blinkers.

FIFTH: Honeyhasdamunnings was a front-end winner the first time she touched the inner surface; pairs up. Noble Master made sustained rally to break maiden in last at FG; nice fit with the locals. Bluegrass Prevails drops and makes third start of form cycle; very playable. Voluntario logged fast figures in both dirt starts; could easily take this.

SIXTH: Good Harbour tallied improved internal figures in last and could be primed for breakthrough at fat ticket. Buckleberry Grey was a tough-trip third in last and packs potent late kick on best efforts; very playable. Daggett is speedy, rested and could prove very tough on an unchallenged lead.

SEVENTH: Core Portfolio logged four, eye-catching works since wire-to-wire score in inner-track debut; more to come. Big Paul unleashed strong rally when a dominant maiden winner last time at GP; big-time player. Warden of the West is training strongly for first start in eight weeks; must consider.

EIGHTH: Stormy Sky logged career-best number when a clear-cut second in first start on winterized footing; pair of sharp, half-mile works seals the deal. True Romance is fleet-footed and will prove very tough on a soft lead. Lassofthemohicans hails from potent layoff barn (Bill Mott); right in the thick of this.

NINTH: Hangry gets class relief after taking backward step in last start; rebounds. Bustin to Get Home was pace and trip compromised when fourth in last; very playable. Thunderbumms drops and is training consistently for first start since Nov. 13; price will be tempting. D. S. Boyd cdould improve with addition of Lasix.
