Steve Matthews’ Aqueduct selections for Wednesday, April 5

Best Bet: HAVE ANOTHER (3); Best Value: FLY ASH (5)

FIRST: Katie Ice was a tough-trip third in last after winning previous two starts; rebounds today. Miss Meteor was a strong second in last and owns fast back figures; dangerous. Sea Pebble was compromised by rough journey in last; worth long look at long price.

SECOND: Blessed Halo needed last start and should be tighter in second outing since seven-month layoff. Hello Holiday debuts for Mike Hushion; follow the money. Patternrecognition is a newcomer from the Chad Brown barn; enough said.

THIRD: Have Another tallied swift late-pace figure when breaking maiden in last; pairs up at playable price. Blue Belt is speedy and riding a two-race winning streak; very dangerous. Horoscope also is fleet-footed, razor-sharp and owns fast figures; easily could take this.

FOURTH: Presumptuous owns speed and could play out as the controlling front-runner with aggressive ride. No Need to Appeal was fifth in key-race debut at Gulfstream and has trained sharply in the interim. Desirous was a clear-cut second behind a 13-length winner last time; don’t overlook.

FIFTH: Fly Ash was pace and position compromised last time and should be aided by return to Big A’s main track. Ice Palace owns two seconds and two thirds in last four starts; prefers minor awards? On the List took backward step in last start after fast-figured win two races back; rebound potential.

SIXTH: Killybegs Captain has been sidelined since October but is training with a purpose for potent layoff barn (John Terranova). Mahalo John has delivered strong efforts in last four starts; logical, short-priced player. Correjon was second to a repeat winner in debut; right in the thick of this.

SEVENTH: Dark as Midnight gets class relief and is riding a forward line on pace and final figures. Southern Union was a breakthrough maiden winner in last; developing and dangerous. Hard Hitter is rested and should be favorably positioned near the front; must consider.

EIGHTH: Five Star Rampage notched improved final fraction when an even fourth in 10-horse field last time; more to give in third start of form cycle. Kathryn the Wise visually and numerically impressed when winning debut at the Big A last fall; could easily romp. Sing for Beauty owns speed and competitive numbers; must be factored into the mix.

NINTH: Pontastic logged three 5-furlong works for first start since January; primed and ready. Samurai Warrior makes first start since claimed by David Jacobson; big-time threat. Cornedbeefandcabbage was a solid second at this level in last; right in the thick of this. Sound of the Tap is improving with each start; worth long look at long price.
