Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Friday, Oct. 21

FIRST: Heated Verdict adds blinkers and makes peak start of form cycle after flashing improved speed in last; more to come. Tracking Stock wheels back in a hurry after determined maiden victory on Oct. 7; dangerous. Bow Tie Affair was a fast-figured fourth in last; right in the thick of this.

SECOND: Wicked Fun drops, moves to dirt and should offer playable price; call in weak maiden field. Chorus Line is training with a purpose for first start in 58 days; dangerous. Beverly Mine drops into maiden claimer after failing to get involved in debut; improvement expected.

THIRD: Foreset was a dominant, fast-figured maiden winner in the slop last time; transfers razor-sharp form to dry land. Point Hope tallied swift late-pace number when a clear-cut second in last; very playable. Nominal Dollars owns two wins, a second and three thirds in last six starts; must consider.

FOURTH: Hotfoot was compromised by pace pressure last time out; softer flow makes big-time difference. Piazza Del Campo bested top selection by nearly six lengths when a game second in last; could easily take this. Salute the Colonel was a tough-trip fifth in debut; right in the thick of this.

FIFTH: Pure Lemon is training consistently for first start in 53 days and logged lone stateside win after similar layoff. Littlemissbusiness took backward step in last after fast-figured win in previous start; bounce-back threat. Ice Palace could be in the garden spot if fractions get fast and furious.

SIXTH: All About Ashley returns to grass after making middle move and flattening last time; set for best in third start since three-month absence. Data Driven logged fast late-pace figure when making wide rally in last; very dangerous. Tiz a Chance owns two wins and two seconds in four starts on Belmont grass; must be factored into the mix.

SEVENTH: Here Comes Rosie tallied only win on Belmont loam and is working with a purpose for first start since August; rates close call. Sea Pebble was a much-the-best maiden winner in last and stock on race got a boost when second-place finisher won next start; very dangerous. Saluda is speedy and owns fast figures; big-time player.

EIGHTH: Neoclassic gets class hike after clear-cut win at marathon distance last out; amplified wallop predicted at shorter trip. Burndines, an uncoupled barn mate (Bob Barbara) of top selection, is fleet-footed and can prove very tough on an unchallenged lead. Performance Bonus compiled four tight works since winning last; short price is the problem.

NINTH: Justenufflaughter gets class (drops in with NY-breds) and distance (favorable cutback to 7 furlongs) relief and will offer juicy ticket in wide-open nightcap. Cardroom Shanni was a front-running third in debut; speedy threat once again. Pure Gemmz moves to grass with suitable pedigree; very interesting. Champagne Therapy is firing bullets for first start in seven weeks; must be factored into the mix.
