Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Monday, May 29

Best bet: TERRY O GERI (7)

FIRST: Brooklyn Speights was a clear-cut second in first start since six-month layoff last time; more to give. Wintry engaged fast fractions when a better-than-it-looks seventh last time; dangerous. The Great Samurai returns to maiden claiming ranks and makes peak start for form cycle; right in the thick of this.

SECOND: Laura’s Patriot logged solid late-pace figures in last two starts and should have more in the tank in third start of form cycle. Puparee grabbed short-lived lead at the quarter pole in last and should be favorably positioned in bulky field; dangerous. Fire Key was second to a repeat winner April 28 and has trained sharply in the interim; right in the thick of this.

THIRD: Bobby Fab has worked strongly since finishing second behind a 20-length winner in debut; primed and ready. Giant Expectations owns fast figures and ships in for SoCal-based Peter Eurton barn; very dangerous. Sicilia Mike is 0-for-12 but owns competitive numbers on best efforts.

FOURTH: Louisville First owns speed, gets first-time Lasix and is working with a purpose for first start since October. Fourstar Crook, 3-for-4 on Belmont grass, is one of three from Chad Brown barn; underlay material. Freudie Annie is fleet-footed and can prove very tough on a soft lead.

FIFTH: Madame Ambassador was pace compromised when a better-than-it-looks sixth last time; forward move predicted. Questeq is riding a forward line on the numbers; dangerous. Got the Gist moves to grass and gets the meds in first start for Chad Brown; worth long look.

SIXTH: Jules N Rome logged eye-catching work slate for first start since claimed by Gary Contessa; call based on price potential in ultracompetitive field. Picco Uno has won four in a row for white-hot Jason Servis stable; very playable. Kathryn the Wise has visually and numerically impressed in both starts; obvious threat.

SEVENTH: Terry O Geri logged four sharp works since fast-figured victory last month; pairs up wins. T Loves a Fight packs potent kick on best efforts; very dangerous. Bavaro needed last and is more than good enough on “A” game; right in the thick of this.

EIGHTH: Royal Posse should pack intensified wallop with cutback to mile; rates call in very deep group. Diversify is fleet-footed and could capitalize on clear lead in big field; very dangerous. Celtic Chaos unleashed sustained run to win second straight last time; price will be tempting.

NINTH: Macagone is fresh and projects as the controlling speed with aggressive ride. Get Jets tallied swift final fraction when a hard-charging second in last; very playable. Kharafa is an eight-time winner on Belmont grass; must be considered.

10TH: Holiday Disguise tallied improved late-pace figure when a dominant winner in last; more to come. Bluegrass Flag has logged fast-figured wins in three of last four starts; logical, short-priced player. Tiznow’s Smile fired half-mile bullet work since winning last; very interesting. Noble Freud was second to Bluegrass Flag when 30 cents on the dollar last time; short ticket once again.
