Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Saturday, Oct. 7

Best Bet: ROCKETRY (9); Best Value: POWER BOSS (4)

FIRST: Reality Queen is speedy and gets favorable cutback to sprint. Brattata was a hard-charging second when favored in debut; easily could take this. Night Time Lady makes first start for Chad Brown; need more?

SECOND: Hookup earned fast late-pace figure in debut last November and is training sharply for first start in seven weeks; call based on price. Starship Zeus packs potent late kick on “A” efforts; very interesting. Copper Town was a swift-numbered, front-end winner in last; likely underlay. Patternrecognition owns a win and three seconds in four starts; logical, short-priced threat.

THIRD: We Deer You won last on Spa sod and was a hard-charging victor in only start on Belmont grass. Bold Thunder is speedy and could prove very tough on a soft lead. Disco Partner, the world-record holder at 6 furlongs on turf, is firing bullets for first start in 56 days; very dangerous.

FOURTH: Power Boss logged deceptively fast late-pace and final figures when seventh in last; more to come. Ambassador Jim bested top selection by five lengths when second as the favorite in last; disappoints the chalkplayers once again? Freedom Warrior makes first start for Chad Brown; you know the drill.

FIFTH: King of Spades turns back to shorter route and should pack intensified wallop in wide-open field; rates close call. Bootlegger tallied swift final fraction when a determined winner in last; pair up potential at a price. Caribbean also notched rapid late-pace figure when taking last; big-time danger. Hembree has finished second in last three starts; must be factored into the mix.

SIXTH: St. Augustine logged two sharp works and gets the meds after even fourth in debut; forward move predicted. Allured bested a next-out winner when second in debut at Saratoga; logical. Montauk is firing bullets for first start and was bought for $850K this past April; could be the goods.

SEVENTH: Monte Man took backward step in last start after fast-figured win in previous race; rebounds today. Helooksthepart packs powerful kick and will be in the garden spot if top selection hits the wall in the stretch. Story to Tell was third in last and owns faster back numbers; right in the thick of this.

EIGHTH: Good Magic notched swift final fraction when second in debut; added ground plays to strength. Hazit held off top selection by a length when a front-running winner in first start; obvious threat. Honorable Treasure compiled four tight works since dominant maiden score at Saratoga on Aug. 19; right in the thick of this.

NINTH: Rocketry earned career-best number on Belmont sod at Spring-Summer meeting and fired half-mile bullet for return to favorite footing. Yoshida was a tough-trip second in Saranac Stakes last out and tallied three works in the interim; very dangerous. Hieroglyphics has won three of last four starts; must be factored into the mix.

TENTH: Diversify is speedy and has the benefit of the rail in JCGC; come and catch him. Keen Ice was an impressive winner at the distance in Suburban Handicap; very dangerous. Good Samaritan adds blinkers after being too far back in Travers; don’t ignore.

ELEVENTH: Street Fightin Man is riding a two-race winning streak and should offer generous ticket in wide-open nightcap. Island Therapy should be favorably positioned near the front in bulky field; worth long look. Red Knight owns a win and a second in two starts; must be considered. Minsky Moment moves to turf for Chad Brown; if underlays are your game. Bushmill Giant makes third start of form cycle; price will be tempting.
