Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Sunday, June 19

Best Value: PROPHET’S CAT (7)

FIRST: Pass the Dice is riding a three-race winning streak and gets confident price hike. Our Caravan drops and owns fast back figures. Easy Comparison can prove to be a front-end threat on best. Banner Bill is training sharply for first start for David Jacobson; must respect.

SECOND: Ordinaire returns to turf and gets first-time Lasix; improvement predicted. Junger has delivered two strong efforts on Belmont sod this year; dangerous. Yummy Bear was less than two lengths behind Junger after wide trip on May 28; could easily close the gap.

THIRD: Celebrated Talent gets confident class boost in first start since convincing score on April 24; more to give. Fabulous Kid gets class relief and owns fast figs on “A” game. Rockford is fresh and fires big efforts with machine-like consistency.

FOURTH: Complicated was compromised by wide trip in last; another chance. Llanita is from Chad Brown barn but has failed as the favorite in all four U.S. starts; you’ve been warned. Athena’s Aegis was a solid second at 77-1 in debut; right in the thick of this.

FIFTH: Susie’s a Cowgirl was speed sharpened in last and should make forward move at playable price. Orient Harbor packs potent late kick and could be in the garden spot if pace meltdown ensues. Bruised Orange is speedy and will prove very tough on a soft lead. Downside Scenario is training with a purpose for first start for Chad Brown; obviously must be considered.

SIXTH: Thnxtomyuncle runs late and could receive front-end setup in wide-open field. John Eddie is speedy but shows no works and takes suspicious price plunge after solid third in last; your move. Apache Warrior never fired when favored last time; right in the thick of this on best efforts.

SEVENTH: Prophet’s Cat notched career-best late-pace figure in last and added quarter mile should play to strength. Coco Is Loco is fresh and tallied swift final fraction when winning debut last fall; very dangerous. Fulmer is training consistently for first start in nearly 20 months; mixed message.

EIGHTH: Welcoming has worked sharply since fast-closing third in last; more to give. Ava’s Kitten consistently logs fast numbers and drilled four times since last start; big-time player. Ancient Secret is 2-for-2 and hails from Chad Brown barn; can you say underlay? Thundering Sky owns competitive figures on best races.

NINTH: Kundray notched swift final fraction in last start and fired crisp half-mile work at Fair Hill base. Alabama Bound just failed to last when a game, front-running second in last; very dangerous. Munchkin Money drilled four times since late-running fifth in debut; improvement expected. Out of Nowhere was third at 27-1 last time and now makes peak start of form cycle; don’t ignore.
