Steve Matthews’ Belmont selections for Sunday, June 5

Best Bet: ANGRY MOON (3)

FIRST: Invisible Crown is training sharply for first start since claimed by Michael Pino; logged fast late-pace figure on Belmont turf. Jeremy’s Song was a much-improved second in last; dangerous. Simon Keaton regressed in last after game placing in previous start; rebound threat.

SECOND: Derby Glass is training consistently for first start since claimed by David Jacobson. North Slope, claimed by Danny Gargan, was a fast-figured second in last. City Steel has won three in a row; must be factored into the mix.

THIRD: Angry Moon, 1-for-1 on Belmont sod, looms the speed of the speed if all is well. Almasty compiled eye-catching work slate for 4-year-old debut; dangerous. Sandy’z Slew is right in the thick of this on best efforts.

FOURTH: Biaviian makes peak start of form cycle and Dave Cannizzo barn switches to go-to rider, Joel Rosario. Strong Dude was a clear-cut second in last and owns faster back numbers. Greyjoy drops, returns to dirt and owns swift numbers; big-time player.

FIFTH: Honorable Daniel is speedy, rested and rates close call based on price potential. Lone Trader notched only career win on Belmont grass; very dangerous. Suckitupbuster will be favorably positioned near the front; don’t ignore. Elusive Talmo needed last; odds will be tempting.

SIXTH: Young Anna Lee could be set for best in third race since eight-month layoff. Day After Day is training sharply for debut for Mike Hushion; could be the goods. Uptown Liza was an even fourth in debut and should improve with race under belt.

SEVENTH: Mr Harlan tallied deceptively fast late-pace figure when a close-up eighth in last; throw deep in wide-open, NY-bred turf dash. Brimstone has finished second at short odds in last two starts; continues trend? Prophet’s Cat and Freudian Lights are two long-priced players that could impact if pace meltdown ensues.

EIGHTH: Grey Stark was edged by heavily-bet barn mate when a wide second last time; reverses decision. Elysea’s World upped record to 2-for-2 when defeating top selection on May 11; very dangerous. Gioia Stella owns a win and two seconds in three lifetime starts; logical contender.

NINTH: Thnxtomyuncle needs pace collapse for best chance and lands in a field in which likely favorite takes suspicious price drop. Elcinico should pack enhanced kick with cutback to 6 furlongs; worth long look. Apache Warrior is speedy but drops below level of claim after 114-day layoff; handle with care at short ticket. Miroc was a front-running maiden winner in last; must consider.
