Steve Matthews’ Saratoga selections for Friday, Aug. 25

FIRST: Northernstreetgal displayed newfound speed when an even fourth in last; forward move predicted. Purely Lucky ran late in sprint debut and added ground could play to strength. Codrington was a clear-cut second in most recent; logical, short-priced player.

SECOND: Eye Luv Lulu drops and owns fast back figures; crisp 5-furlong drill last week seals the deal. Build to Suit exits fast-figured score in last; very dangerous. Chilly Bon Bon is training swiftly for first start since February; worth long look.

THIRD: Sunset Ridge has won three starts by a total of 25 1/4 lengths; hard to bet on or against. Bonita Bianca was a determined winner in last at Finger Lakes; rounds out exacta. Five Each Way starts from the rail for first dirt start; exotics inclusion.

FOURTH: Barbarossa is speedy, adds blinkers and projects as the controlling front-runner in race that’s jammed with newcomers. Iron Johnny is firing bullets and is from a dam that has thrown a winner on grass. Battle Station makes debut for Wes Ward; follow the money.

FIFTH: Aveenu Malcainu tallied solid final fraction when winning debut; more to come. What a Catch is fleet-footed and 2-for-2; very dangerous. Morning Breez was a pole clear when second to “Catch” last time; must consider.

SIXTH: Reconsider It drops back into maiden claiming ranks after showing improved speed in last; needs scratches to escape AE list. Halcyon, also outside body of race, should move forward in second start since April. Hope’s Roar logged five tight works since game placing in last; very dangerous. Grandpa’s Arianna should improve with first-time Lasix for George Weaver.

SEVENTH: Freudie Anne is fleet-footed and can secure unchallenged lead in big field with aggressive ride; call based on price potential. Fourstar Crook is riding an amazing, eight-race winning streak that stretches back to October of 2015; obvious danger. Ack Naughty overcame traffic when a last-to-first winner in most recent; must be factored into the mix.

EIGHTH: Trouble for Skylar lived up to heavy tote support when an 8-length winner in debut; more to come. I Still Miss You failed to get the job done when 35 cents on the dollar last time; disappoints chalk players again? Newport Breeze and Cause We Are Loyal are two SoCal shippers that exit maiden victories in last; respect both.

NINTH: Black Tide bottomed out the field when a fast-paced, front-running winner in last; pairs up. Get Jets packs potent late kick and could be in the garden spot if top selection hits the wall in the lane. Kharafa makes peak start of form cycle and also would be aided by fast fractions.

TENTH: Twisted Tom logged three tight works since determined win in NY Derby at Finger Lakes last month; more in the tank. Can You Diggit was compromised by slow splits when fourth to top selection in NY Derby; could narrow the gap. Minsky Moment owns a win and three seconds in four starts; must consider.

ELEVENTH: Grand Valour moves to grass for Linda Rice after late-running fourth in debut; must escape AE list. Mr. Cat, also from Rice stable, spun his wheels in the mud last time but was fast-figured third in most recent grass outing; very playable. Dab has finished second as the favorite in last two starts; strike three today? Shades of Brown is speedy, needed last and can prove tough on a soft lead.
