Steve Matthews’ Saratoga selections for Monday, Sept. 4

Best Bet: DADDY IS A LEGEND (5); Best Value: MUHAAWER (2)

FIRST: Dirty noticeably picked up the tempo in final workout; call at first asking. Marzo was bought for a million dollars last year; will they get their money’s worth? Pete Marwick adds blinkers and returns to dirt after rough trip in last; must consider.

SECOND: Muhaawer was pace and trip compromised in last; set for best in third start of form cycle. Itsabigboy was a fast-figured winner on dirt last time; easily could transfer razor-sharp condition to grass. Carbon Data made middle move and flattened versus tougher field last time; dangerous.

THIRD: Sir Bond made sustained run when a strong second in last; more to give. Driving Me Crazy gets confident price hike after soundly defeating cheaper on July 28; very playable. Drover Crazy takes precipitous price plunge in first start since claimed; fire sale?

FOURTH: Kelsocait has worked sharply since clear-cut victory on Aug. 13; pairs up. Your Love was overmatched in Test Stakes last time; more than good enough on best. Ring Knocker owns a win and two seconds in three starts on Spa soil; must consider.

FIFTH: Daddy Is a Legend dons blinkers and gets the meds after useful fifth in debut; forward move predicted. Rushing Fall is a pricey newcomer from the Chad Brown barn; seen this ending before. Critique was a clear-cut second in debut; be no surprise.

SIXTH: Home Run Maker compiled sharp work slate for debut; ready to roll. Engage was a strong second in debut; regresses today? Impact Player makes first start for Todd Pletcher; wouldn’t be a secret.

SEVENTH: Glorious Empire was a visually impressive winner in first start on Spa sod and has trained sharply in the interim; ready for stakes company. Heart to Heart projects as the dominant speed on the hedge; very dangerous. Projected owns stalker’s style and could be in the garden spot if pace meltdown ensues.

EIGHTH: Bareeqa overcame soft fractions when a hard-charging winner in last; more in the tank. Driven by Speed owns speed and could prove very tough to collar if allowed an unchallenged lead. Barrier to Entry is fresh and hails from Linda Rice stable; don’t overlook.

NINTH: Givemeaminit tallied swift late-pace figure when second in debut; 7-furlong distance plays to strength. Oskar Blues withstood constant pace pressure when an ultra-game winner in debut; very dangerous. Firenze Fire notched determined win in Sanford Stakes last time; right in the thick of contentious Hopeful.

TENTH: Objective Complete failed as the favorite when returning from seven-month absence last time; tighter today. Sandy Belle is speedy and easily can go wire to wire with unchallenged splits. Amanda Lane also is quick from the gate and gets added points if Sandy Belle scratches. Andretta runs late and looms the prime beneficiary if fractions get hot and hectic. Lulu’s Pom Pom has finished second in last two starts; obvious threat.
