Lizards attack and Smithtown native Rob Pannell won Major League Lacrosse’s Offensive Player of the Year award on Wednesday.

Pannell, who played at Smithtown High School and later won the Tewaaraton Trophy at Cornell, broke the MLL single-season scoring record with 74 points. He had 42 goals and 32 assists in 14 games.

The award was voted on by MLL coaches and general managers. Ohio Machine attack Tom Schreiber, a St. Anthony’s alum, finished second in voting.

The Lizards’ season ended Saturday in the MLL semifinals.
